The goal of this project is to develop a device (incubator or reactor) which will make experimenting with variety of fermentations more easy and fun by being able to control variety of conditions, like for example temperature and humidity, together with measuring and recording these data.

There are several features or principles which we are after:

  • open source - we share what we do, do share back please
  • versatility - the incubator should allow for variety of different cultures to be fermented/grown like for examples yogurt cultures, tempeh, mushroom growing etc.
  • robust and upgradeable - what we build should last and the old models should be easy and cheap to bring to a next generation
  • environmentally friendly - we should try to use materials which are not harming the environment if possible
  • generation after generation - when the working prototype is done and ready we should start to work on next generation

The future goal is to offer to the public a blue print of a machine which will help them to ferment at home and which they can effort. Ideally we produce easy to assemble kids which we make available on-line, if the things go really well we could make a complete product and offer it to the public. Now what should be are short, medium and long term goals?
