Closing email for the CCC 2023 camp event

Greetings to all, it has been over a month since the camp has ended. We had several IRC meetings since then, always at 19h00 on Sunday evening, something more of us, well sometimes less. It seems like based on the reactions, most of the people considered the event as a success. We finished our build up and set up activities quite on time, however it would be definitely good if next time we have at least one pair of hands ready for build up like from day -4 or so. Bigmac with Pontus did lots of driving for shopping and taking care about trailer, with Eric we did most of the wood work with thankfully Kolhell helping later on. There were pairs of hands in and out but still we were bit short for sure.

During the event things went quite smooth, it could be definitely cooler temperature wise and of course we could have fresh water line in and draining out. However we have managed to install fresh water IBC supply and draining IBC. This combined with washing station run by angels did the job but finding fresh water to feed the pumping system was a job with big J for sure. I think big thanks should go to Jennifer for her help with cooking and also workshops during the event, she did a lot and it definitely helped. Of course there is a long list of names whod chiped in and not just fhb "members". I would say that this time it was mostly me or Eric running around and doing what needed on the ground, with Bigmac jumping in when suitable. Eric was also in charge of money as treasurer. It seems like that we have broke around even for the event, which leaves us with more or less 700 € surplus accumulated from previous events. I, Algoldor would like to claim some fuel money as mentioned before. In a way I'm sorry to ask for it but I can not really afford at the moment to erase it, even if we did not generate really surplus during the event. My trip to France from where I brought part of our gear (and forgot some) and tent was around 550 € in fuel and toll, Czech to Germany and back was roughly around 220 €. If I could get around 300 €, that would be great but at least 200 € would be really nice. Of course I would have to drive anyway but well slower with the trailer and all that loading and unloading, it would make me happy. If you have opinion against then please voice it within next few to several days.

To my knowledge we did not have any major issue or problem during the event, no big injuries, expositions or some not so nice digestion experiences because of our food and also no major social tensions, so it went quite smooth. For the tear down we were again at least one or two people short but it was done. I've left in the morning on day 6 bringing decent amount of wooden planks which I used for my kitchen back at home (and have promissed to do my best to make at least one or better two mobile tables for next events), rest of the team I believe the day after. For the moment there is a trailer with part of our gear at Ninu's and Wabu's place. We have promised, me, to pick it up before the congress.

So this was just a short recapitulation of what went on. If you would like to stay in touch with the rest of the group please pop in on Sundays around 19h00 to our #foodhackingbase IRC channel, oftc network or send an email about something interesting to the mailing list, Facebook group is also an option. Nice photo or recipe which you like, you know to keep some presence. For me harvest and transformation season is starting so for next two months I'll be busy busy. It would be good to keep things alive because in around three months we have CCC Congress and well it will be first time in Hamburg after the reconstruction of the Congress Center so I think we need to be really in a shape to guard our spot inside rather than being under the tents again. If we would have to stay outside or be in another building I'm not sure if we should go for it, we would need to discuss.

Take care everyone and thanks for being there, it was a really nice event! Sincerely for fhb,

František
